The main mission of the Department of Detectors, Electronics and Computing for Physics is to design and build innovative detection instruments allowing new discoveries in Physics. DEDIP is involved in large international instrumentation projects, such as the development of the NECTARCAM cameras for the future CTA high-energy gamma-ray observatory or the construction of large size and high speed gaseous and semiconductor detection systems for the LHC collider at CERN, and contributes technically to space missions as Solar Orbiter, SVOM, SPICA and LISA. These high-end contributions are only possible thanks to a strong R&D effort, particularly in the fields of gaseous detectors, microelectronics and signal treatment.

DEDIP has large clean rooms, dark rooms used for the characterization of the cameras as well as technological infrastructures as CICLAD allowing the study and the integration of the large detector systems designed. It is also a major actor of the CAPTINNOV platform. Thanks to its very large panel of skills (physics, mechanics, electronics, signal treatment and computing), DEDIP can autonomously design complete detection systems from sensors to complex data visualization.
